Bristol Schools TriathlonIn 2008, a successful ‘Kids of Steel’ school triathlon was staged in Bristol under the auspices of British Triathlon and the sponsorship of Corus, attracting over 400 children to give the sport a try. Now our local triathlon club, Bristol and District Triathletes, and the South West Regional Committee of the governing body have decided to run a similar event as part of the Bristol Triathlon Festival 2010. This year’s event is due to take place on 13 July 2010 and will be based at Horfield Leisure Centre.
The Bristol Triathlon Festival is a series of events run in and around Bristol through July and August with the aim of increasing the exposure to the sport of triathlon and showing how accessible, inclusive and exciting the sport can be.
The Schools Triathlon is a key element of the Bristol Triathlon Festival. The aim is to introduce a large number of children to the sport of triathlon and allow them to experience a fun and exciting sport in a safe and enjoyable way. We will also be able to signpost interested children to return to the sport on a regular basis through local clubs.
In the 2008 event, a huge number of children from schools around the city took part, and this year we would like the event to be even bigger. Due to the size and location of Horfield Leisure Centre, we can accommodate up to 1000 children - which would make this event on of the biggest of its kind in the UK.
This type of participation cannot be achieved without your help: whether you are a local PDM, School Teacher or even an interested parent, please consider this event for your diary of sporting events across the summer.
Please read the following frequently asked questions to find out how to get involved. If you have any further queries please get in touch either by e-mail (coaching@badtri.org) or by phone (07866 467091).
We look forward to seeing you in July.
